It easily dilutes in C2H5OH, water and ether. It tastes sour. Formic acid is used to formulate disinfectant, preservative, polymer and dyes. Its presence can also be noticed in the composition of insecticides. As a strong acid, this chemical can react with metal oxide and metals.
